SICTC Dress Code

The Southern Indiana Career and Technical Center dress code ensures that all students are safe and
helps to maintain an atmosphere of respectful communication and learning.

This policy is part of the preparation of students for their next steps in the workplace but also to keep
safety at the forefront of the student’s minds. This requires dress and grooming that keep the
atmosphere focused on learning and are consistent with expectations for dress students may
experience in a workplace during internship experiences and extending after high school.

Students are expected to hold themselves accountable to this code. Students will be given the chance to
correct violations. Students who violate the dress code after daily corrections are given will receive a
disciplinary consequence.

Some programs will have additional dress code requirements to account for certain safety factors.

SICTC’s Dress Code Policy is as follows:

  • Tops and dresses must have sleeves (no tank tops), full coverage of the back, front, and side of the torso (not
see-through), and cover all undergarments. Tops must cover the person’s midriff at all times when
    standing or seated.
  • Pants, skirts, or shorts must be worn at the waist with all undergarments fully covered (not see-
through). Pants, skirts, or shorts should touch the student’s top at all times when standing or seated. Pants, skirts, or shorts must reach to or below the student’s fingertips when their arms are held straight
against their sides. If items have slits, tears, or rips that expose skin, those openings must be below the
fingertips. Sleepwear (pajamas) is not permitted.
  • Heads are not to be covered by a hood. In some cases, head coverings are allowed and even suggested
    to maintain safety.
  • Eyes are not to be covered by tinted glasses unless recommended by a program area to maintain safety.
  • Shoes must be worn at all times. No house slippers or shoes with cleats or wheels (roller skate shoes)
may be worn. Students are strongly encouraged to wear shoes with closed toes and heels at all times.
Students will have certain teacher-approved shoe expectations based on their program to help ensure
    safety.
  • Any apparel, jewelry, manner of grooming, or personal items, including but not limited to school
supplies, purses, and backpacks shall not advocate drug use, alcohol use, violence, sexual activity, make
political or social statements, or include messages hateful to others, will not be worn.

Notes:

  • Any issue not listed in the dress code policy or questions regarding interpretation are at the
    discretion of the school administration.
  • Students who need modifications to the dress code because of religious or health reasons will
be allowed at the discretion of the school administration.
  • Anything deemed as a disruption to the educational process will be addressed.
