2023 T.R.E.K. Summer Experience Areas of Study

During the 2023 T.R.E.K. Summer Experience, a camper will be able to experience four (4) different areas of study. Each area of study is limited to 20 campers per day. The selection of campers will be selected by a lottery based on the camper's selected areas of interest. Campers will get their schedule for the week on the first day of the T.R.E.K. Summer Experience. The options for the areas of study are as follows:

Architectural Design Technology
Have you ever wondered what an architect does? Spend your time with us and experience the steps it takes to design, build, and construct a small structure. Let your creativity run wild in this design arena. NOTE: This area of study will require camper to wear safety glasses. Safety glasses will be provided.

Building Construction Technology
Do you love building, working with your hands, or just tinkering? Have you ever wanted to use equipment like a miter saw and power drill? During your time in the Construction Experience, you will build a washer board game that will provide hours of fun at your next backyard gathering and for years to come! NOTE: This area of study will require camper to wear closed toe shoes and safety glasses. Safety glasses will be provided.

Computer Science
Do you love games and technology? Software programs are all around us and you might not even realize it. Join us for a crash course on building the retro video game Asteroids. Even if you’ve never programmed before, we will show you the basics so you can go above and beyond.

Culinary Arts
Do you enjoy cooking at home? Can you see yourself as a chef/owner of your own restaurant some day? Then come join Chef Sam and his team in our Culinary Arts Lab, and see what it’s like to work in a professional kitchen. You’ll even get to create a scrumptious treat to take home with you.

Diesel Service Technology
Have you ever noticed that all the products you need are at your fingertips? Your food, clothes, electronics, Amazon orders, and mail wouldn't get to your door without Diesel Technology. Come and learn about how this process works to get products to your home. NOTE: This area of study will require camper to wear closed toe shoes and safety glasses. Safety glasses will be provided.

Electrical Technology
Have you ever wanted to learn more about exciting field of electrical work? In this camp experience, students will learn the fundamentals of electrical safety, drawings, and how electricity powers so much around us! They will also get to take home a cool game they make in class. NOTE: This area of study will require camper to wear safety glasses. Safety glasses will be provided.

Engineering Design Technology
Do you think 3-D models are cool? Join us to learn how to use software, just like a real engineer, to create products that you use and see on a daily basis.

Media Communications & Broadcasting
Have you ever dreamed of hearing your voice on the radio? Do you love making TikTok videos with your friends? Then come join us in Media Communications & Broadcasting for a week of media fun! In this course, you will get to create audio projects for a real radio station, 90.7 WPSR. You’ll also get the chance to go in front or behind the camera to create a short newscast!

Welding Technology
Ready to make sparks fly? Come learn all about welding and how the process works to create machine parts, ships, furniture and so much more. Campers will learn welding safety and MIG WELD which is perfect for beginners. Every camper will create a small welding project to take home for display. NOTE: This area of study will require camper to wear closed toe shoes, jeans/canvas material pants and safety glasses. Safety glasses will be provided.
