Cybersecurity

The Cybersecurity course at the Southern Indiana Career & Technical Center provides a comprehensive foundation in modern computing trends and the skills required to implement and protect information systems. Students will explore core topics such as operating systems, database technology, cybersecurity fundamentals, and cloud implementations, all while learning how to apply best practices for effective information management.

Through hands-on experience, students will develop basic programming skills to create scripts that solve real-world problems and enhance understanding of algorithms, logic development, and flowcharting. The course covers key principles of networking and cybersecurity operations, introducing the architecture, components, and operation of routers and switches in small networks. Students will gain practical experience configuring and troubleshooting routers and switches to ensure network functionality.

The curriculum also dives into cybersecurity and information assurance, focusing on both the technical and managerial aspects of the field. Students will learn essential terminology, concepts, and best practices in computer and network security, as well as the roles of management and security personnel. Topics include network authentication, identifying and mitigating security threats, and the techniques used to create a secure computing environment. This course equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the growing field of cybersecurity.
